Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to retain or engage your services as an attorney?
To retain or engage my services as an attorney means that you have hired me to represent you on a specific issue or legal problem.
How do I hire you to be my attorney?
Typically you will pay me an initial retainer to represent you that is agreed upon. In most instances, we will also sign a retainer agreement defining the scope of my legal services, the hourly rate for the legal services, how expenses that are out of pocket expenses such as filing fees and deposition transcripts are separate expenses and billing practices.
If we talk on the phone does that mean you are my attorney?
If you have not met me in person and paid a retainer to represent you, I do not represent you. If you have called me and we have talked about a legal situation or issue, I have provided only general information, not legal advice. I provide general information as a public service for the benefit of the legal consumers and the legal system generally.
Is there legal information that I can access on the internet to become better informed about the legal system or specific areas of law?
